Bob the Builder Birthday Party!

Can we Party?!

YES WE CAN!!

Well, as you can tell, I'm still hanging in there.

My water did not break during the birthday party,

thankfully.

And we made it through!

First off,

the cake.

Now I know you saw my part the other day,

but check out BOB!!!

My friend, Laurie,

truly outdid herself!!

He is clearly well put together and totally made the cake special!

and was a total hit with our own Bob the Builder!

My portion of the cake was a bit of fussin', but worth it!

I used a great tutorial found on FamilyFun.com.

They have SUPER cake ideas!

and often show videos of how to do it.

I just looked at a picture of SCOOP and tried to adapt this tutorial to recreate him.

The toughest part was trying to frost a twinkie!

Definately freeze them first!!

All the kids and parents met us at the free splash pad in town.

It was very warm and the kids loved the water.

I brought colouring sheets and crayons in a dump truck.

and mod podged rocks with our favourite characters to hold down the napkins/plates and papers so they wouldn't fly away.

Lastly, before everyone left, we had a pinata!

here it is after the party still in one piece.

Why?

because it wasn't a pinata you hit--

it had a trap door!!!!

the kids pulled on the caution tape strips one by one.

they fall right out unless you pull the one that opens the door

and WHAM!

Candy for all!!!

the kids and the moms loved it!

I got the idea on familyfun.com as well.

but did a few things differently.

the thing that made it the easiest was that I had bought adhesive caution tape at the dollar store.

Saved my butt that tape did!!

and made decorating the park a breeze because I didn't need to "tape" my caution tape.

It just stuck to whatever I put it on!!

All in all a great day!

A car banner for the patio decor....

We asked for food donations for our local food bank

and T-shirts for an African mission trip in lieu of gifts.

Bubby received an abundance of donations!

5 lbs of clothing

and an entire laundry basket of food!

All in all,

very successful and fun 2nd birthday!

I put a lot of planning into my kids birthdays.

Every year I have a theme.

My mom used to make us the best cakes.

My friends still talk about my childhood birthday parties!

They were fabulous!

My parents pulled out all the stops!

Here are the cakes my kiddos have had on their big day!

Pumpkin's 2nd birthday was a rubber ducky theme

This lovely lady was the cake and the present for Pumpkin's 3rd Birthday bash!

Hubby has a big family so we had quite a few mouths to feed.

And a lot of little mouths at that.

So we opted to have little cuppies instead.

Don't worry.

We did eat the Croc later with my family.

So, Bubby has a big #2 birthday at the end of July.

I'm normally all over this but I have to confess

I haven't thought much about it.

Probably because I've been planning this since last year!

Who doesn't love cake?

Everyone loves cake.

Or at the very least, the icing.

When I was first working, I decided I needed a hobby to offset the stress of my day.

So off I went to Michaels in search of one.

Michaels is the BEST! I love it there!

I could get lost in the aisles.

Especially with a 40% OFF coupon!

Who couldn't?

Well I decided to take a cake decorating course.

I loved it. I learned a lot.

I however didn't really excel in it.

It's not that I wasn't good or that I wasn't inspired.

I just like the quick and easy--"Look! I'm an expert in one class!" approach.

So now I just dabble.

I take what I've learned and just play around.

So when I saw this on The Crafty Crow and it lead me here;

And then eventually to Bethany Actually where I found this great tutorial,

I thought--now there's a way to make a showstopping impression!

And anyone can do it!

Well I taught sunday school this past Sunday and the story was about Joseph and his coat of many colours.

PERFECT!

Yes! They really were that bright!

And I think all the colours made them taste better.

The kids LOVED them!

So I had lots of icing leftover.

Grandma was coming today for a Mother's Day Tea with Pumpkin at Preschool.

HMMMM...
Let's make cake!

So we did!

Beautiful cake!

With what was supposed to be rainbow icing...

But when you s-p-r-e-a-d rainbow icing instead of pipe rainbow icing,

you get muddy brown icing with a hint of rainbow.

Doesn't matter.
Pumpkin had fun.

And Grandma felt so special.

And the little Happy Mother's Day topper?

Well I made it from this free printable tag.

I made it smaller and printed 2.

Cut them out and glued them together with a toothpick sandwiched inside.

Talk about pizzazz!
